Technical translations allow manufacturer to provide quality documentation to customers around the world and increase its overseas expansion
Hydronix is the world’s leading manufacturer of digital microwave moisture measurement sensors. Established in 1982, the company has installed over 75,000 sensors across a wide range of industries in over 70 countries worldwide. Their moisture sensors are used successfully in applications which include concrete, aggregates and asphalt as well as organic materials such as animal feed, grain, nuts, oils and biomass products.
In September 2016 Hydronix began its partnership with The Translation People.
Having previously worked with another translation agency whose Account Management operations were outsourced overseas, Hydronix explored other agencies as communication with a UK based partner was essential for them in order to ensure quick responses, fast turnarounds on their projects and to ensure that the specific requirements for each translation were fully understood. After an initial meeting to discuss requirements, The Translation People drew up a proposal and pricing for Hydronix for the 24 languages they required for their global operations. The initial brief was for the translation of manuals and marketing content.
Previously translated content was analysed and individual Translation Memories created in order to ensure consistency with existing material, where appropriate. A team of suitably qualified translators was assembled to translate the different documents, including a thorough quality check by another linguist before delivery. As the content to be translated is technically complex, highly qualified technical translators are used to ensure accuracy in the target translation.
After a period translating technical documents, there was a requirement to translate software strings into different languages, for the user interface of Hydronix equipment. As well as technical skills to be able to edit software file formats, software translation also requires the translators to consider how individual words and phrases should be translated out of context. Good levels of communication between Account Manager, translation team and Hydronix ensured that all queries were resolved and the translation project delivered successfully.
Effective Translation Memory Management has also ensured growing levels of discount, with these being included where content has been translated previously. All new projects are analysed against the existing Translation Memory to ascertain what content has already been translated, ensuring no unnecessary duplication takes place.
Over the last 18 months, The Translation People has delivered translations in a wide range of languages for Hydronix including German, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Chinese, Russian and Turkish. As well as technical and marketing content, The Translation People has devised innovative ways to process software content to ensure translation projects of this type are translated efficiently and in a consistent manner with installation documents containing references to the software. These elements are key to ensuring Hydronix equipment can be correctly used by operators across the world.
Hydronix has recently diversified its business into controlling moisture in animal feed and grain processing. This has required the creation of a complete set of new documentation ranging from brochures, technical documents and software through to website content and adverts. Having this content available in multiple languages has enabled Hydronix to reach a new target market effectively and quickly.
The Translation People continually delivers the quality and excellent customer service that Hydronix rely on to produce the content necessary to develop new markets and remain a global leader in microwave moisture management.
