The company’s Dutch website, which went live in June, has been written for the Dutch-speaking market and is hosted on a Dutch server. However, the website will also appeal to the Dutch-speaking Flanders region of Belgium.
Now that two foreign language versions of the site have been completed (German was launched earlier this year) there are plans to launch new French, Spanish and Italian versions of the site in the near future. The move is part of a drive by the UK-based company to take its translation expertise to new markets on the continent – and to improve its service for existing European customers.
Account Manager Eric Van Looy, who joined The Translation People team in February, commented: “The Netherlands has always been a very industrious country, and international trade has marked its development as a nation. This translation of the English website into Dutch will not only allow The Translation People to compete for projects on equal terms with its Dutch competitors, but also to maximise the export potential of other nations who seek to market their products in this region. And although our primary focus will be The Netherlands, we are very aware that 25% of the Flanders region in Belgium, speak Dutch, and that this region also offers growth potential.”
Eric, who has a Masters Degree in Translation and is a native Belgian from the port town of Antwerp, translated The Translation People’s website, while liaising closely with one of The Translation People’s professional, native Dutch translators. The Translation People feel that this translation and review method will establish the company with a Dutch web presence that will appeal to both nations.
