Language specialist The Translation People is backing a government drive to encourage small businesses to expand overseas by issuing its own free translation guide.
The move follows the announcement by the UK Trade & Investment agency of a doubling in grant monies available for small and medium-sized businesses to attend overseas trade shows.
Under the extension of the Tradeshow Access Programme, SMEs can now apply for up to six grants of up to £1,800 to exhibit their wares at 400 major overseas trade events. Previously, the limit was three grants.
“The extra grant money is a fantastic boost for small businesses looking to expand overseas during the recession,” said Steve Wilde, Managing Director of leading UK translation provider The Translation People.
“However, success depends on adopting a professional approach – and in particular that means not cutting corners when having exhibition or marketing materials translated.

The Translation: getting it right guide is produced by The Translation People in conjunction with industry body the Institute of Translation & Interpreting. Among the subjects included are: identifying priority materials for translation; avoiding common pitfalls and cultural misunderstandings; and how to find the right translation partner.
