Delivering multilingual eLearning at speed for EU-wide athlete integrity education

EPIC Global Solutions needed to deliver a complex, multi-stage education programme for the EU Athlete’s Players Association—covering match fixing, betting integrity and gambling harm prevention—across five European languages, with tight deadlines and zero tolerance for errors.

About the client / project

The Translation People enabled EPIC to move from research surveys through to translated learning resources and six on-demand eLearning modules in English, French, Spanish, Italian and Danish, supporting a high-visibility Erasmus+ initiative designed for professional athletes across Europe. By combining expert linguists with technology-enabled delivery, EPIC was able to launch multilingual learning content on schedule—without compromising accuracy, consistency or cultural nuance.

The challenge

EPIC’s challenge wasn’t simply translation volume. It was the complexity of the delivery journey.

This project evolved through multiple phases—each with different audiences, formats and risks:

  • Survey distribution to member nations, requiring translation into local languages and then back into English for analysis
  • A Train the Trainer Day, delivered in English but supported by workbooks and resources localised for multiple nations
  • The conversion of research insights and workshop feedback into six eLearning modules, hosted on the EU Athlete’s website for on-demand access
  • Ongoing feedback surveys, translated to support continuous improvement of the programme next year

At every stage, accuracy mattered. The subject matter—integrity, betting behaviour and gambling harm—requires precise terminology, careful tone, and culturally appropriate phrasing. Any mistranslation could undermine trust, reduce learner engagement, or create reputational risk for the organisations involved.

Just as importantly, EPIC was working to strict client timelines. The project demanded a partner that could respond quickly, handle multiple file types, and maintain quality across languages and formats—without slowing delivery.

The solution

The Translation People supported EPIC with a delivery model designed for high-stakes, multi-format multilingual content.

A key part of the approach was the integration of expert human linguists and AI-enabled workflow, ensuring speed without sacrificing quality. This meant EPIC could move quickly when deadlines tightened, while still benefiting from professional translation and review for nuanced topics, idioms, and athlete-facing language.

Across the project, the team supported EPIC with:

  • Rapid translation turnaround for surveys, learning resources and feedback materials
  • Language guidance on how to translate colloquialisms, local nuances and idioms, particularly within video-based learning content
  • Consistent terminology across modules, ensuring learners received the same meaning and intent regardless of language
  • Responsive communication and fast actioning of requests—especially during critical delivery windows

When EPIC faced particularly tight deadlines with their end client, The Translation People accelerated delivery timelines and prioritised responsiveness, enabling EPIC to maintain momentum without compromising quality.

As EPIC’s Head of Delivery Services noted, it was “always possible to speak to someone straight away,” and work was “actioned extremely quickly”—a crucial factor in keeping a complex programme on track.

The results

The translated materials have been extremely well received—both internally and by EPIC’s client stakeholders.

Key outcomes included:

  • Successful delivery of multilingual learning products across five European languages
  • No translation errors identified across delivered content
  • Strong stakeholder confidence, with no language or terminology being questioned
  • A smooth rollout of on-demand eLearning modules for EU-wide access

For a project dealing with sensitive behavioural topics and high-profile sports audiences, the absence of language queries was a significant indicator of quality. It demonstrated that the translated content was not only accurate, but also natural and credible for each audience.

The experience

For EPIC, the defining difference was not just the translation itself—but the reliability of the delivery partnership.

Two factors stood out:

Speed and agility
EPIC needed a translation partner that could keep pace with changing requirements and tight deadlines. The Translation People delivered consistently fast turnaround times, supporting EPIC’s ability to respond quickly to client needs.

Expert language judgement
Beyond straightforward translation, EPIC required guidance on localising meaning—especially in video content and training materials where tone and idiom matter. The Translation People provided practical, consultative input to ensure language landed appropriately across different nations.

As EPIC summarised:
“Working with The Translation People has enabled us to provide multiple language offerings to our clients around the world… What has impressed most is the speed of service, which has also enabled us to have a more agile approach to delivery.
