Roevin was invited by the Association of Translation Companies to share its experience of the pilot Graduate Apprenticeship Scheme at this year’s annual conference in London on 20th September 2007. The ATC is the UK body representing the interests of translation companies and offers impartial advice to those seeking translation services.

Liz Athey, Operations Manager and Natasha Williams, a Graduate Apprentice from Aston University, provided perspectives from a host company and student. Natasha Williams said “The placement gave me invaluable experience into many different aspects of the translation industry.” Liz Athey, Operations Manager, commented that “the falling numbers of students studying languages at school and university will lead to a critical skills shortage if not addressed and so it’s important that translation companies do all they can to encourage careers in the language industry.” The Graduate Apprenticeship Scheme aims to offer MA students in Translation Studies a high quality structured work placement within a professional translation organisation.
