Machine Translation

machine-translation-servicesMachine Translation with Human Post Editing

At The Translation People we understand that commercial constraints might make it impractical or impossible to have all your documentation translated by a specialist translator, so our option of MTPE (Machine Translation with Human Post Editing) makes the perfect alternative.

Over the years, translation technology has evolved to the point where it's now possible to fulfil high-volume translation projects by machine, with human translators improving the overall quality with thorough editing and checking. Although the finished quality of these translations can't match those carried out entirely by our specialist translators, this system does make a commercially sound alternative when budgets are critical, volumes are large and timescales are tight, or where it's not crucial to reach the same exemplary standards achieved by our human translators.

Our MTPE service is perfectly suited to when the purpose of the translation is simply to understand what the source text says, but where overall style and attention to nuance are secondary. It's also a practical and cost-effective way of translating material that would otherwise be left untranslated, and to carry out initial assessments of the source text prior to human translation or to produce work that only a handful of people within your organisation will read. Where perfect translations are critical to you business, we'd always recommend our standard translation service.

Although various engines now offer an automatic translation service, such as Google Translate, these systems aren't suitable for sensitive or confidential material because they use an unsecured central engine to store your text. In contrast, our service uses a secure engine - one that never stores your material and is used exclusively for you.

Certain automated systems offer the possibility of ‘training' the engines to meet a specific client's needs by creating terminology glossaries and incorporating previous translations already completed for that client. A more costly and time-consuming process, this process gives better and more tailored results and is always worth considering for large-scale ongoing projects featuring client-specific terminology.

In order to provide maximum flexibility to our clients, we offer three options including graded levels of editing by a professional translator. Our options are priced differently according to the level of quality they produce:

Comprehensive MTPE delivers the highest quality translations of these three options.

Standard MTPE focuses on making material understandable, and

Pure MT offers a more basic translation undertaken entirely by machine.

Rest assured that every one of our MT and MTPE projects is managed with the same level of care and professionalism that underpins our entire range of translation services.

The following graphic and examples illustrate the different levels of quality offered by these different options:

Please see the examples below to assess which of these methods is most appropriate for you. Please note that the text below is relatively simple and has produced a good initial Machine Translation. Other documents may not generate such a satisfactory result, but we will be able to advise you of this once the initial Machine Translation has been performed.
