Salford student wins “Achievement in Translation” award

Julia Hinz was the first winner of the Roevin-sponsored “Achievement in Translation” award presented at the Salford University graduation brunch in July. The award, presented by Alan White, Manager of Roevin’s Manchester office, aims to recognise outstanding achievement in the field of translation studies.

Roevin is committed to promoting excellence in the field of translation studies and values its links with Universities delivering the highest standards in language-related teaching. Roevin already has links with Salford University, which is a few miles from Roevin’s Head Office, as two of its Account Managers are Salford graduates.

Julia recently graduated from Salford University with a BA (Hons) in Modern Languages, Translating and Interpreting. A German national, she studied German, French and English translation and interpreting and has secured a position with Deutsche Bank in the Spanish holiday resort of Nerja. Julia hopes to progress her translation and interpreting career in Spain.

Roevin has also joined forces with Salford University on the Steering Group for the “Graduate Apprenticeship Scheme”, a pilot scheme which aims to offer MA students in Translation Studies high quality and structured work placements within professional translation organisations. As well as Roevin, members of the steering group include CILT – the national centre for languages, the Association of Translation Companies and the Universities of Salford ] and Aston, where Roevin also sponsors two academic prizes for translation students.

The Roevin “Excellence in Translation” award was presented by Liz Athey, Translation Operations Manager, at the Postgraduate Degree Congregations held at Aston University on 7 March 2006. The award, won by Sonja Krange, a native German speaker, was presented for the first time in 2005 and recognises outstanding achievement in the field of translation studies.

Christina Schaeffner, Director of Translation Studies at Aston, said “Sonja has consistently produced excellent work and fully deserves the prize”. Sonja has secured a position with a pharmaceutical company in Germany.

Hard Work Translates into Award

A student from Aston University celebrated a double achievement recently as she graduated with a First Class Honours degree as well as clinching the prestigious ‘Achievement in Translation Award’ sponsored by Roevin Translation Services.

Catherine Johnson, a 28 year old mature student at Aston University’s School of Languages and Social Sciences, was presented with the Award by Liz Athey, Manager of Roevin’s Translation Division, for outstanding achievements in her Translation Studies Degree. The Award is an initiative developed by Dr Christina Schaeffner, Director of Translation Studies at Aston, together with Roevin. Dr Schaeffner highlighted the importance of the Award, stating “Forging links with translation companies is very important for Universities, to ensure we provide our students with the best possible preparation for today’s business world.”

Catherine has already secured a much sought-after position as a staff translator at the SAP organisation in Heidelberg.

Roevin presents award at Aston University

astonA new award, sponsored by Roevin Translation Services, was presented at Aston University this month to recognise outstanding achievement in the field of translation studies. The winner of the “Excellence in Translation” prize was Matthias Fersterer, who was recently awarded a Masters with distinction in Translation in a European Context. Christina Schaeffner, Director of Translation Studies at Aston, said “Matthias has consistently produced excellent work and fully deserves the prize”. Matthias, a native German speaker, moves to Brittany next month where he has secured a position as a staff translator.
